Monday October 22

Today we learned how to solve a qudaratic equation by completing the square.

the idea is to turn the problem into a perfect square trinmomial and then use squareroots to solve it.

Today you should be working on your cryptography project.

You should have an encoding equation of the form y = ax + b ,where a is odd, not 1 and not 13 and b is any number except 0.

You need to encode a passage of your choosing (at least 25 words long)

You need to find your decode equation and decode your passage.

Put all of this on a piece of paper and make it look nice!

This will be due at the end of class tomorrow.

Today we learned what our cryptography project was. We will start really working on it in class on thursday. You need to begin thinking of an equation to use, a decoding equation and begin to think of what passage you will encode

Today we continued to look at mod math to get us ready to work on our project which we will start tomorrow.

Your job tonight is to solve the following equations mod 26
1x = 1
3x = 1
5x = 1
7x = 1
9x = 1
11x = 1
15x = 1
17x = 1
19x = 1
21x = 1
23x = 1
25x = 1

I gave you a hint and some solutions. The solutions are {1,3,5,7,9,11,13,15,17,19,21,23,25} but not in that order. We discovered in class that 21*5 = 1 mod 26 and 5*21 = 1 mod 26

Today we started talking about a cryptography project that we will work on this week. We started by learning about modular arithmetic. you have no homework tonight except to look and make sure you feel okay about the idea behind modular arithmetic.

Today we solved ineqalities. The only difference between an inequality and an equation is that if you divide or multiply by a negative then the inequality will flip.
